Set in Copenhagen, 1926, the film follows the story of Gerda and Einar Wegener, a couple with happy marriage. One day, Gerda gets an idea that paints a lady of her husband in female appearance. Their marriage starts to be messed up when the painting brings her with the success she never gets before and the desire deep down inside the soul of the husband is revealed.
