Jean Hervey, a wealthy and arrogant writer, comes home to discover a letter from his wife, Gabrielle, revealing that she has left him for another man. When Gabrielle returns, the couple is forced into a stark confrontation over what remains of their marriage. As they examine each other and themselves without mercy, their relationship begins to come undone.
