In this cinematic adaptation of Robert Traver’s classic novel, James Stewart stars as Paul Biegler, a humble small-town lawyer who takes part in the case of Lt. Manion, a jealous army officer who has murdered a local bar owner. Biegler hopes to win freedom for his client by using as his defense the argument of “irresistible impulse”, but he must face with his biggest opponent - the hard-headed big city prosecutor Claude Dancer.
